SwiftKey Keyboard has become free to Android customers after shedding its £2.99 price tag.
The app originally allowed users to download and use it through Google Play for one month's free trial before paying, but it will now continue to work freely past the initial month.
SwiftKey Keyboard has also been updated with numerous features for greater user customisation.
The app was designed to replace an Android device's onscreen keyboard, learning from the way users type and memorising their personal writing style.
It boasts an accurate autocorrect function, next-word prediction and other features including SwiftKey Flow, which lets users type faster by sliding their finger across the screen.
Users who have already paid to use the full SwiftKey service will be rewarded with a Premier Pack of 10 themes, free of charge.
The move comes ahead of an iOS 8 app launch, which will allow Apple users to replace their default device keyboad.
New updates to the app include emoji integration for the first time, with a new prediction feature that learns how emoji are used and predicts them as you type.
SwiftKey’s word prediction engine has also been improved, with better autocorrect and more accurate gesture typing, and new global languages have been added, bringing the total number supported to 66.
In addition to the 30 new themes in the Store, SwiftKey Keyboard now features a clean new default theme design, ‘Nickel’, which is free to all users. The update also introduces an optional number row for quick access without switching layouts or using long-press, and new and improved flow trails.
The app launched in 2010 to critical acclaim, and is one of the world’s best-selling Android applications, spending more days at number one on Google Play than any other paid app.
